Mest Show Chi-Town
2004-02-27 @ 1:46 p.m.

So, Mest, pretty amazing show it was. I left on the el at around 5, a little bit after, because I didn't want to get to the show to early. Everything went really well until I got on the Howard train to Belmont, it was delayed, and I was freaking out a little bit, but it was all good. I made it there about half an hour early, it was funny as I was going in and a couple girls who didn't know what the hell they were doing had to throw out their chains, cracked me up.

The place is actually pretty cool, but I don't think it's really going to be one of my more favorite places to see shows at, it's more of a bluesy place, less punk rock . There are about six levels, two stairs seperating, and then a tiny, TINY, pit at the bottom, probably about the size of my room, maybe a little bit bigger.

Once again, another retarded venue with STAIRS to get to the bathroom, which fucking sucked. I'm paranoid about that now, ever since I fell down the Riveria stairs in a haze, lol. (I'm listening to the Clash's 'Spanish Bombs' right now, and it sounds like they're saying 'Spanish bumss...' it's funny). They did however have a coat check, now that was really nice, even though I didn't use it.

I went down into the tiny little bit, and just stood there waiting for Dynamite Boy to come on. I ended up talking to these two girls from Wheaton, one was wearing a Kurt Cobain shirt because it was his birthday, I was proud for knowing that. As soon as Dynamite Boy went on, the entire crowd just went off. The guitarist for Matchbox Romance actually crowd surfed during their set, which was really awesome, it's was a cool thing to do.

Then there was a half hour wait for Matchbox Romance to come on, and they were really awesome, I like the singers voice. The bassist for them was just awesome, and kept comming into the crowd, and touching our hands, and just, communicating with us. I thought he was really awesome. At some point the singer of Fall Out Boy came on stage and sang with them and rocked out, that was awesome, Chicago has a lot of love for Fall Out Boy, as we should. I can't remember who did it, either Dynamite Boy or Matchbox Twenty, I think it was Dynamite Boy. But they did a cover of AC/DC's 'TNT', I love that.

Then we had to wait another half hour for Fall Out Boy to come on(I was getting really tired waiting for them, for some odd reason) and I had to stand around these retarded girls who kept getting on my nerves talking about how hot he was, or how they lost one of their friends, or how they're hot(we were ALL fucking hot), or their hair got messed up.

I'd never seen Fall Out Boy, but let me tell you, they kick amazing ass. I think we went more crazy for them than Mest(probably because a lot of people left after Fall Out Boy). I ended up getting behind this super tallk blond guy, and just, staying behind him. He wasn't budging and inch, and he was in direct center front, so I just stood behind him, fought for my footing, and enjoyed the show.

After Fall Out Boy, I got out of the pit. I had never done that on my own will before, but I'd seen Mest twice before and I figured I'd rather just see them than get annoyed by all the girls in the pit. I went to the bathroom, and then went back upstairs, got a coke, wandered around, and positioned myself on the second level to the 'pit', right on the edge, I had the bestest view, one that would soon get even better.

I ended up seeing Ted Skinner, that was cool, he was there with his girlfriend I think, he poked me and he's like 'Hey! Rock on!' I cracked up. Then I end to the lowest level next to the 'pit' and enjoyed the show.

Mest, they're just great live. They don't look as happy as they used to playing anymore though. Tony hates that so many young girls come to the shows, I feel a little bit quilty, but damn, I love their music so much. During their set they played the 'I Hope I Get My Dick Sucked' song, that was hysterical. They had us do it in choral way, it was funny as ever.

After that song some Dad was getting pissed or something, and Tony goes 'it's okay man, I don't want YOUR daughter to suck my dick...or do I? No I don't...or do I? Okay, he looks like he wants to kick my ass now, so lets move on...'

At some point Tony brought Brenden on stage and had him say 'What's Up!?', that was adorable. That's such a cute little kid, he's so lucky to grow up in such a good family.

Tony even crowd surfed a few times, telling us we should have worn helmets because of all the other crowd surfers. It was just fun.

Towards the end he had everyone get on stage and dance and sing, that was pretty cool. Even though they were sick they did an encore, and everyone from the previous bands came on stage, I sang my heart out.

After the show I went out, got a Fall Out Boy t-shirt(I have two Mest shirts), called my dad, and stood outside in the snow. I ended up getting a free First Class demo, two tickets to a show at the Metro this Friday, and a bunch of fliars, a few stickers.

Tony said that the tour will end in Chicago, so that's something I'm going to look forward. Sorry this wasn't a very detailed description of my show-going, but I feel bland today, and now I'm very tired. It was most definetly a good show though. I enjoyed myself.
