Cold Dope
2004-12-21 @ 9:04 a.m.

'Angel's Wings' has to be one of my all time favorite songs ever. I don't know if it's number one, but it sure as heck is at least number two.

Oh yeah! On Sunday night I went to see Twisted Method/Dope/Mushroomhead with Angela, Sam, Vince, and Greg. Talk about a kickass show man.

Vince and Greg took a ride down there while Angela, Sam, and I took the L down to the House of Blues. Now, for those of you who are not currently in the city of Chicago, it was about, oh say, zero degrees and dropping outside. And no, that isn't even an exaggeration, is is the COLD truth. So, since doors were supposed to open at five thirty, and we figured that in no way would we want to wait in line, in the, you know, FREEZING COLD, we would get there a little bit after five thirty.

Boy did we get screwed over.

So, we arrived and the line was THREE BLOCKS LONG, I kid you not. See, the dillema with bringing a coat to a concert is that it's going to make you really hot in the pit, and that's bad because you could pass out. So, if you're going to wear a coat, you have to be willing to pay money for a coat check, four dollars off the bat, and that could significantly ruin your chances for buying a t-shirt. However, thank the Lord, I was convinced to wear a coat, or jacket I guess because it was not nearly warm enough. All I had underneath it was my Jimmy Dean tank top and fishnet.

We stood in line for almost an hour, in FREEZING temperatures. Boy were we pissed, me and Angela were losing the feeling in most of our body parts, especially the toe region. I never thought that we'd get in, but we did eventually. This is of course after Greg was bet a dollar to lick some piece of metal where his tongue got stuck to it and he had to rip it off and it started bleeding. Also after I had, in my cranky mood, yelled at Sam a number of times.

Anyway, because of lazy as heck security guards, that was why we were forced to wait outside so long. It was really just wrong, to have a bunch of kids who are less than clad standing in below zero weather, after promising the doors to open an hour earlier isn't okay. I totally think we should sue. But, that's just my opinion, I mean, it wasn't like it was a nice summer day out!

Any-hoo, we went in and Angela and I used the little ladies room, and we checked our coats, and the guys got t-shirts, and Sam got a really neat work shirt for Dope that Angela and I are totally going to steal.

We ended up going down into the floor area for Twisted Method, and I'm glad we did because I really liked them a lot. Despite the pre-conceived motion that they were an R&B Metal band I was open to hear what they could do. I really liked it, and they weren't an R&B Metal band except for one song. We all liked them actually. Angela and I stayed towards the back while the guys ran up real fast to mosh a bit. Before they had all been headbanging in unison much to the chagrin of those around us. The guy in front of me asked if they were my friends after they left, and I said 'Yeah', and he said 'I'm sorry.' That was really funny. So true too. :-P

Not only were Twisted Method really good on stage, but they were some mighty fine boys, yes indeed. They were also very kind, cause they wandered around and signed stuff, and hung out in their merch booth and junk.

After Twisted Method Greg, Angela, and I wandered up closer because we were there for one reason, and one reason only, and that was to get our lovely fix of Dope. Angela and I were connected by hand holding, which pissed off a lot of people, and would have pissed me off too if I were them, but this was a one time thing, so, whatever. They opened with 'Die Motherfucker Die'(haha, it feels so wrong typing that, weird too), and the whole crowd went insane. There were some hyper kids in that crowd. Never at a show have I seen people jump so high, it was so awesome. Angela was excited, I was excited, everyone was estatic.

I mean, come one, Edsel Dope, Racci, THE VIRUS, and Brix were right in front of us! According to Angela who apparently was paying more attention than I was, Edsel was even doing his signature leaps and jumps. They played 'Fuck the Police', 'You Spin Me Around'(which I loved a lot, that was a fun song), 'Bang Bang Your Dead', 'Bitch', and soooooo many others that I can't remember cause my brain is dead. :-P Actually, right after they left the stage Greg, Angela, and I were sitting on some steps trying to remember. They all have such state presence though, and I kept trying to take in each member, while keeping hold of Angela(that was funny, cause I kept slipping up in front, but Angela isn't as aggressive in the pit yet as me[talk about odd, I'm more aggressive than her in something!] and kept getting trapped behind me, but I eventually got her up close). I loved their set.

All in all I got kicked in the head probably three times, one guy even swiped his foot across my face and I thought he broke my nose, but I was safe, and I dropped two crowdsurfers. I hate crowdsurfers, they're all complete idiots, or, naive concert goers. Same thing I suppose. The kicks didn't even phase me though, I was having way too much fun. Angela was too, despite the ass crack in her face. :-P She did a lovely job in the pit, she held her own and she kicked ass, and she didn't cry. I'm so proud of her! Now I think she finally has some understanding of the pit kind of life.

After Dope had left the stage, sadly. :-( Angela and I wandered back to the washrooms because she had to pee like a racehorse and I was positive a piece of my hair had been ripped out. Thankfully, I spotted no bald spots. We ended up meeting Greg and Sam, and as I said, we sat on some steps and people watched. Twisted Method walked by us probably three times, but we're all lazy and didn't get up to get their signatures, even though I know Angela wanted too. I did too actually, they were super nice guys and really talented, not to mention extremely hot. Whoot. We saw some really hot people walking by us and Greg and I kept grossing each other out, and Angela got to see her friend Joe and his friend Katie and it was all really fly.

Sam and Vince went into the pit for Mushroomhead but I wanted to stay out for them, I'm not really a big fan, I was there to see Dope, and I was tired. You could tell that the crowd was split, because after Dope all the Mushroomhead fans went into the pit, and all the Dope fans hung out in the back.

Mushroomhead were good, only, their songs are way too freaking long. I like how they stage dive though, that takes some courage if you're a member of a band, you might not ever get back to the stage. Their light effects and stuff were pretty cool too. Greg and I stood next to each other and headbanged and danced to their entire set, even though I was zoning out most of it. Angela was behind us getting high off of someone elses weed, and that was hysterical. She kept wandering off after the show, and whenever we found her she'd have this really big smile on her face and she was all relaxed like, it was so funny to see her like that. Thanks to her again for sharing the Sprite! Sprite kicks ass.

So anyway, after Mushroomhead finally left the stage we found everyone and went back to get our coats, but Mushroomhead were signing by their booth. So I had Vince get me their signatures(hey, just because they aren't my favorite doesn't mean I'd mind having their signatures), and I got our coats. Security were being dicks, but that's what happens when you got to a ritzier venue. After re-finding Angela(I swear man, she was like the cat from Alice in Wonderland, with the big ass smile too!), we wandered out of the venue. Only, Sam got me my Christmas present first, being a Dope shirt. Yay!! I was so happy, cause I felt left out without one. It has the band members on the front walking in suits with guns, and on the back it says 'What about tomorrow? Fuck tomorrow!' Haha, I adore it.

So, we got a ride home from Greg's dad, and that was very nice of him.

That was a really fun night, and I'm really glad that I went. Finally seeing Dope was a really cool experience that I'm glad I got to share with my best friend. You did good kid, you did good.
